Not a runner? Can’t get your head, heart and legs around a 5km non stop run?
No need! Just take it one step at a time and move forward
There is a plethora of research that demonstrates getting started (and keeping going) with a mix of walking, run walking and running is just the ticket to completing triathlon – keeping you motivated and getting you fitter!
In fact –many athletes – elite or otherwise have walked in their run a full Iron Distance race – and have still won.
- Keep your heart rate range more stable – recover faster
- Allow your muscles micro recoveries – reduce injury risk
- Go longer (often a run walk strategy will give you a faster overall time for distance)
- Keep mentally motivated (enjoy the mini rewards)
Ultimately our event is all about getting out and moving with your mates… so it doesn’t matter how you keep going forward – just keep going!
So try it yourself…walk one lamp post or one minute and then run for one. (Or maybe you are at two and one). Choose a starting point and change your ratios gradually over the weeks.
